A strong wind could be felt blowing across Puerto Peñasco on Tuesday evening, Oct. 25, which was shortly followed by the loud blaring of sirens as police cars, ambulances, and other emergency vehicles raced to an area near the city’s docks where the Fiesta Cruiser ship encountered serious difficulties * (Update: We must add, the official cause of this accident has not been made known and an inquiry is still pending). Initial information, as reported in a local online news agency (Numero Uno online), indicated the ship had been carrying 44 tourists at the time, including one minor, and unfortunately one person from the U.S. passed away after suffering a heart attack during the event.
Rescue efforts surrounding the tragedy that struck the Fiesta Cruiser took place from about 7 – 10 p.m. on the evening of Oct. 25, and further information as to the accident has not yet been made known. This morning, Oct. 26, the remains of the wrecked boat could be seen as it sat on the sands at low tide in an area near Playa Bonita.

I want to thank those who have been sympathetic in the recent loss of our mother. And I would like to clarify that the cause of death was officially dete4rmined to be drowning, not cardiac arrest,as rumored. So many factors have been glossed over. It’s just a shame to see this happen in a place so dear to her. Charles Fought
