Over the past year, through collaboration of members of the local Rotary Club (CR Mar de Peñasco, AC) with Rotary Clubs and Fire Departments in Arizona, a wide range of useful equipment and supplies have been donated to the local Fire Department.
On September 10th, members of the local Rotary Club visited the Bomberos Station for presentation of equipment recently donated by the Mesa, AZ Fire Department. On this occasion, the donation, including over 80 pieces of equipment ranging from smoke fans to hose fittings, window cutters to halligan bars, among other items, was made possible through the relationship of local Rotarian Sally Downey with the Mesa Fire Department.
Civil Protection and Fire Coordinator Alan Ontiveros detailed this donation included several tools in very good condition that the local Fire Department had been truly lacking. In looking ahead, Ontiveros explained the Department’s goal is to strengthen their vehicle pool with rescue vehicles more apt for Rocky Point’s challenging terrain.
The recent donation from the Mesa Fire Department will continue to strengthen the ability of Puerto Peñasco’s firefighters to respond to emergencies. Similarly, over this past year, the local Rotary Club has coordinated with their sister Rotary Club of Surprise, AZ to present additional donated equipment and supplies from the Buckeye Fire Department in Buckeye, AZ. The earlier donations included numerous fire hoses, turn-out gear, and fittings, as well as mattresses for the resting quarters of the local fire crew.
In 2019, members of the Rotary Club of Surprise were also key in coordinating the donation of two fire trucks and an ambulance to the Puerto Peñasco Bomberos.
