Joint work between airport and ship in anticipation of Puerto Peñasco’s first cruise

Joint efforts are being put into promoting cruise ship tourism, with the first Sea of Cortez route set to launch from Puerto Peñasco in December of this year.

Airport director Fernando Antillón Valenzuela details the airport is coordinating with the British Cruise & Maritime Voyages company, as tickets for the cruise sailing from Puerto Peñasco are being sold across the western part of the US. He furthered, together they are exploring the best options for cruise-goers to get to the area.

Antillón Valenzuela indicated, though this is a pilot program, the cruise is of tremendous help as it represents both a new tourism market and emphasizes the importance of commercial flights to the area.

The cruise ship, which is set to operate in the winter, will bring an extra boost to Puerto Peñasco’s usually slower season and the possibility of promoting flights to draw tourists.

The Sea of Cortez cruise on the Astoria, set to sail from Puerto Peñasco on December 7, 2019, with 6 11-day trips planned through February 11, 2020, has a 500-passenger capacity, and planned stops in Topolobampo, Mazatlán, Cabo San Lucas, La Paz, Loreto, and Santa Rosalía, before returning to Puerto Peñasco.
