The Covid-19 vaccination process for older adults in Puerto Peñasco began just as Spring started. The four-day vaccination campaign, open to adults 60+, was to be held March 19th-22nd, and included application of just over 4000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
Mrs. Francisca Pina, 87, originally from Puerto Peñasco, became the first non-medical personnel/front line worker to receive the Covid-19 vaccine in Puerto Peñasco on Friday, March 19th.
This is the first phase of the broader Covid-19 vaccination program in Puerto Peñasco.
On March 17th, the new lot of 21,800 doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine arrived in Sonora. These were then allocated to Puerto Peñasco (4724), Guaymas (16,660), and Nacozari (500), specifically to start with vaccination of adults 60+.
The immunization sites in Puerto Peñasco were set up at the Centro Integrador del Bienestar (Comprehensive Well-Being Center) next to the park known as “El Cárcamo”, and another within the facilities of the Technical Elementary No. 37 “La Eti”.
Municipal Health Coordinator Erick Francisco Gastelum Pacheco detailed this vaccination campaign was made possible via coordination of local authorities, the statewide Vaccination Brigade, and personnel from the State Secretary of Health. He added that 20 people from the City government assisted with support and transfer of older adults in wheelchairs, as well as monitoring for secondary effects after receiving the vaccine.
Gastelum Pacheco explained the Nueva Esperanza Community Center serves as a registration spot for upcoming vaccination dates, and individuals can register at mivacuna.salud.gob.mx (NOTE – you need to have a CURP #) Registration is currently only open to individuals 60+
