We’re back! The holidays have come and gone with processions, pastorelas, posadas, presents, and postres (desserts). To all of those who came across a small plastic doll in the traditional Kings’ Day cake “Rosca de Reyes” on Jan. 6th, we’ll be looking for your best tamale recipes so you can entertain amigos on Feb. 2nd as Mexican tradition calls for.
As we get started with our Rundown season for 2013, please be sure to stay warm this weekend as the national weather service is forecasting bitter temperatures for Sonora and in our seaside spot through Jan. 14th. A press notice today notified everyone that local schools will be closed both tomorrow, Jan. 11th and Monday, the 14th due to the cold predictions. If you have extra blankets to share, find a bud to cuddle up with indeed!
Despite the chilly temperatures, activities are just starting to warm up around town and actually got started last weekend with the Mermaid’s Art Market in Shrimp Park. The Mermaid’s Market is scheduled for every first and third Saturday of the month from now through about May (or June). Organizers Russ and Naomi Black tell us there is some flexibility on the dates if/when additional activities are set to take place in the park at the same time (such as Taste of Peñasco in February).
This Weekend
On Saturday, Jan. 12th, the Rocky Point Medical Clinics will get their monthly clinics underway in the facilities of Church of God. The clinic, which is to run from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. is always looking for volunteers to assist with translation so if your Español is up to par, and you’d like to help, please contact Susie Stavros at susiestavros@aol.com Susie tells us the group now has their own website, with upcoming clinic dates, that can be found at www.rockypointmedicalclinics.com. Plus, look for them on Facebook.

Festivities at Diseños Casa y Jardin start at 5 p.m. and will include music from a selection of local young musicians, and all around good spirits (and warmth)…remember it’s cold out there.
