Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño visited Puerto Peñasco this week to mark the official groundbreaking ceremony on the first of three towers at Encántame Soleil of Encántame Resorts. The governor made a commitment to transform Puerto Peñasco into a lever for economic development in the state, lauding the 1.8 billion dollar investment represented in the Encántame Soleil project, which is the accompanying part to the already prominent Encántame Towers complex.
Governor Durazo’s visit for the groundbreaking ceremony at Encántame Soleil was part of his working tour to Sonoyta and Puerto Peñasco, which also included kicking off work to improve the main Blvd. Benemérito de las Américas in Sonoyta (stretching from the border through town) and construction on a Sentri line to ease traffic flow at the Lukeville/Sonoyta crossing on the Mexico side.
Additional focus for the area highlighted by Durazo included:
- Construction of a future toll-highway between Sonoyta and Puerto Peñasco
- Improvements to the highway between Puerto Peñasco-San Luis Rio Colorado via a 100 million peso investment
- Addressing the problem of the oxidation lagoon in Puerto Peñasco once and for all, though this is not something that can be done “from one day to the next”
- In coordination with the City of Puerto Peñasco, construction of a boardwalk malecón that will further improve the urban image of the city
“Puerto Peñasco has exceptional tourism potential,” highlighted Governor Durazo, “and therefore all the investment initiatives seeking to establish themselves here shall have all the support and backing of the Governor of the State to transform this port into a lever of economic development in Sonora.”
