To overcome the negative impact left on Rocky Point’s tourism industry by the Covid-19 pandemic, the local Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV) is taking steps to strengthen promotion both in Mexico as well as the U.S. With this in mind, the city looks to welcome strong numbers in Summer visitors, much as those seen over Spring Break and Semana Santa this year.
OCV President Héctor Vázquez del Mercado specified though expectations are high for Summer tourism, beginning in May itself, we “cannot quite claim victory as the drop set us back by at least 10 years.”
The OCV President detailed while in 2019, 9 million pesos were put into promoting Puerto Peñasco, in 2020 this amount barely reached 4 million pesos. Nevertheless, the Convention and Visitors Bureau continues to work with optimism and strength, with the goal of investing at least 5 million pesos into promotional campaigns but nationally and abroad this year.
Vázquez del Mercado highlighted the importance of reviving the economy, yet without letting down our guard while continuing to heed health measures that have shown to be successful in Puerto Peñasco in combating Covid-19.
