The final countdown has begun toward Holy Week vacations, which is a whole revolution across Mexico. For schools (whose final day before vacation was Friday, March 30th) this represents two tremendous weeks off, allowing students and teachers to take a break from each other, recharging their strengths before continuing with the rest of the semester.
Some places of work let out for a week, while others just give off the official days: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (this year 4/5 – 4/8) so families throughout Mexico can enjoy a beach, tourism spot or city, or simply rest in the comfort of one’s own home….yes, sleeping in is a pleasure!
According to whispers on the sea breeze, Puerto Peñasco’s hotels and condos are already completely booked up for the big weekend; everything is reserved! Of course, there’s always somebody with a home whose entire family may roll in; it may be a ways to go but a few days of rich relaxation on the beach or in the desert is worth it.
Nevertheless, even though everything may be full, if you like adventure and the outdoors, there may be another option: camping, and this time of the year the weather couldn’t be better. (Check with local RV parks to see if there are spots left for camping, or possibly out by the Reef though that beach is generally packed!)
To enjoy the holidays, be sure to respect basic guidelines for getting along and health, respect for others, plus respect for spaces and ecology. Remember that Puerto Peñasco is a natural reserve and for it to stay this way, we need to care for it – and it would be fabulous to use a biodegradable version of the indispensable sunblock.
During this break, parties will not stop around town and there will always be something to do: bandas on the malecón, ATVs through the desert, water sports, dining out, etc. (Be sure to check out the Event Calendar, our Drink & Dine Section, or the Weekend Rundown…coming on Wed.).

3… 2… 1…
La cuenta final empieza, las vacaciones de Semana Santa, todo una revolución en México. En las escuelas son dos enormes semanas que dejan a los estudiantes y maestros descansar unos de los otros, recobrar fuerzas para continuar lo que resta del semestre.
Algunos trabajos, dan una semana y otros solo los días de rigor: jueves, viernes, sábado y domingo,para el disfrute familiar en cualquier playa, centro o ciudad turística, o simplemente descansar tranquilamente en la comodidad del hogar… Si, levantarse tarde siempre es un placer.
Según se corre la voz, Peñasco está con los hoteles y condos a su máxima capacidad; todos están reservados. No falta el que ya tiene casa y le llega toda la parentela, puede estar lejos pero vale la pena el viaje por unos días de rica “flojera” en la playa/ desierto.
Sin embargo, aún cuando todo esté lleno, si te gusta la aventura y la vida al aire libre, hay una opción: acampar, y en esta época del año el clima no podría estar mejor. Una casa de campaña, la primera vista del mar en toda su extención, fogatas, bombones, salchichas, fiestas, asadores y una hielera repleta de bebidas refrescantes para mayores y menores de edad… Ya se dieron una idea.
Para disfrutar al máximo de todos, hay que respetar las mínimas reglas de convivencia y sanidad, el respetar al vecino, los espacios y la ecología. Recuerden que Puerto Peñasco es una reserva natural y para que se mantenga así hay que cuidarla y para eso, también si pueden usar un bloqueador solar (indispensable) biodegradable, sería fabuloso.
La fiesta aquí no va a cesar y siempre va a haber algo que hacer, bandas, motos en el desierto, actividades acuátivas, turismo culinario, etcétera, etcétera, etcétera (pueden checar nuestro calendario de eventos y el weekend rundown, que da una idea sobre lo que se puede organizar para el fin de semana).
