Last year, Puerto Peñasco’s “Viva Peñasco, Fiesta y Cultura” Carnaval festivities were done virtually to minimize the spread of Covid-19. Once again, now in 2022, Puerto Peñasco will not be holding large-scale formal Carnaval activities due to community health concerns.
Still, remarked Beatriz Salido Macías of the Municipal Culture & Art Institute, necessary actions will be taken to continue offering family-friendly fun for residents and tourists alike inline with the city’s economic renewal.
Salido Macías detailed mayor Jorge Pivac Carrillo has indicated a priority on ensuring health and safety – though clearly instructed Carnaval traditions should continue in 2023.
The Municipal Culture & Art Director noted there is tremendous community interest in continuing to strengthen events, such as Carnaval. She added, work on organization and logistics is already underway in looking toward 2023, remarking the idea of forming a civil board to support carnaval fiestas is also under consideration.
