Lukeville-Puerto Peñasco Safety Corridor to begin March 5th

Stemming from a memorandum of understanding signed by Sonora and Arizona Governors Claudia Pavlovich Arellano and Doug Ducey at the Arizona-Sonora Commission held in Puerto Peñasco last November, the Lukeville-Puerto Peñasco Safety Corridor is set to go into effect starting March 5th.

To reach this goal, detailed Natalia Rivera Grijalva of the Sonora Executive Office, throughout February steps will be taken to develop sponsorships among service providers, rest areas, bilingual signage along the highway, and an informational guide on crossing the border, as well as responsibilities of each office within the program.

Meant to strengthen the Mega Region, this pilot project aims to provide economic development opportunities to both Sonora and Arizona residents.  Héctor Miguel Ruiz Arvizu, Deputy Secretary of Urban Development of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Urban Development (SIDUR) detailed following implementation of the Safety Corridor between Sonoyta/Lukeville to Puerto Peñasco, the program is meant to be replicated in other parts of the state.
