Independence Day Activities in Puerto Peñasco
Sept. 15th
7 p.m. Festivities get underway around City Hall. Food stands! Palo Encebado (greased climbing pole), cochi encebado, castillos (firework castles), and more!
10 p.m. Gathering of historical Independence Day figures near intersection of Calle 13 and Blvd. Benito Juarez. “Torch” Antorcha March toward City Hall. There will also be a “jail” set up in the parking lot of OOMAPAS (near TelCel) for the reenactment of freeing prisoners to join the famed Call for Mexico’s Independence, begun in 1810.
11 p.m. The Mayor will issue the traditional Independence Day GRITO from the patio of City Hall.
Generally, this Grito contains the following phrases:
¡Mexicanos! ¡Vivan los héroes que nos dieron patria! Long live the heroes that gave us the homeland!
VIVA!
¡Víva Hidalgo! ¡Viva Morelos! ¡Viva Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez! ¡Viva Allende! ¡Viva Aldama y Matamoros!
