In a beautiful gesture to share their knowledge, experience, and professional skills from the Minor and Major Leagues, while also bringing down athletic equipment to help promote the “king” of sports among local children and youth of the city’s little leagues, on Thursday, Jan. 11, the eight Major league coaches participating in the 3rd Annual Major League Coaches Clinic [“Peñasco in the Major Leagues 2012”] met with members of the local press. The eight coaches will be leading baseball clinics for youth this coming Saturday, Jan. 14, beginning at 9:30 a.m., coinciding with the formal inauguration of the new San Rafael athletic facilities located in the eastern part of the city.  The public is invited to visit the facilities, located on Ave. Simon Morua, as there are bleachers available for spectators during the clinic. To get to the facilities, turn right off of Blvd. Benito Juarez onto Ave. Simon Morua (at the stoplight where Alejandro Portugal’s insurance offices are located across from Pemex…the road to ACE/Socoada) and continue straight, across Blvd. Josefa Ortiz, until you reach a city cemetery, jaunt to the left around the cemetery and continue straight on Simon Morua…keep going until you see the new sports facilities..

He expressed that after putting out a call to various baseball players and others they were able to collect a substantial amount of sports equipment to donate including: gloves, aluminum bats, balls, helmets, and even tennis rackets and other items for the Children and Youth Leagues of Puerto Peñasco. Hartmann added this is part of a program, also run in the U.S., called “Bullets for Bats” in helping to promote healthy activities through sports.

This 3rd edition of the Major League Coaches Clinic has been a coordinated effort between the Municipal Sports Institute and its President Fernando López Trasviña, along with the Youth Sports Foundation and its Director Rick Busa.
