Puerto Peñasco will welcome Mexican President Andres Manuela Lopez Obrador as part of his visit to Sonora from February 16th through the 19th. President AMLO will be on hand for the delivery of some important projects in the state and to supervise progress on others, among these the photovoltaic solar plant under construction in our municipality.
Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño reconfirmed the visit of the Mexican president, which is to include the municipalities of Hermosillo, Puerto Peñasco, Nogales, Bavispe, Bacadéhuachi, Tecoripa and Cajeme.
Governor Durazo explained President Lopez will hold a meeting in Hermosillo with Banco del Bienestar on Thursday, as well as his Friday morning press conference. Afterwards, he will review progress on construction of the Photovoltaic Power System in Puerto Peñasco.
Durazo Montaño indicated the Puerto Peñasco solar plant, which is one of the elements of the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan, is the largest in Mexico and will be the seventh largest plant in the world once completed.
He highlighted the broader project is planning for the construction of five additional plants of this size in the state. The Governor emphasized it is a plan of such relevance that is capturing the attention of the world.
The Governor of Sonora added that on Friday, Feb. 17th, together with the United States ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, President AMLO will also visit the railway bypass in Nogales and analyze the relocation of railway tracks.
On Saturday, February 18, AMLO will inaugurate the Agua Prieta-Bavispe highway in Bavispe. This project is one that residents in the region had first requested in the 1930s.
President López Obrador will visit the lithium mine in Bacadéhuachi, while in Tecoripa he will tour the construction of the Guaymas-Chihuahua highway and artisan roads.
To conclude the president’s Sonora tour, on Sunday, February 19th, they will attend Loma de Guamúchil in the municipality of Cajeme, to evaluate actions of the Yaqui Justice Plan.
