December kicked off with the nightly pilgrimages in honor of Mexico’s patron saint, the Virgen de Guadalupe. The evening processionals, departing from the Old Port each day at 5 p.m. (Dec 1st-11th), wind their way to the Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Church on Ave. Simon Morua, often accompanied by fireworks and music. This all leads up to Dec. 12th, the Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe, with ongoing celebrations throughout the day and night. This is also the launch of the “Mexican marathon” Lupe-Reyes …the holiday stretch from Dec. 12th to Jan. 6th, Kings Day.
For the holiday season, be sure to check out the various food, toy, and blanket drives across town – all planning to spread good cheer.
