The 2021 Red Cross collection drive in Puerto Peñasco raised nearly 350,000 pesos in donations from residents and visitors alike, detailed Irma Rojas Herrera, local Red Cross Administrative Coordinator. Herrera clarified final numbers on commercial donations are still pending as that is a year-long process.
While amounts raised in 2021 so far for the Red Cross are well under that of 2019, when they were last able to collect funds, they had anticipated this due to the overall impact of Covid-19 on the local economy. She added while the 2019 collection raised $715,151 pesos, the 2021 amount so far is at $343,890 pesos, or rather 52% lower.
Still, the Red Cross Administrative Coordinator noted, funds raised through collection cans this year were more than that of 2019. In addition, in 2019 the local Red Cross received an extra $206,000 peso donation from a foundation located in the U.S., which is not the case this year.
The business collection drive for the Red Cross remains in effect through the end of 2021. Rojas Herrera explained any business who wishes to contribute additional amounts may do so in cash or in kind (i.e. gauze, masks, gloves, syringes, etc.). In addition, donations are tax-deductible in Mexico, for more information please contact: 638 383 2266.
