For years, local residents and visitors alike have enjoyed the numerous health and beauty options across Rocky Point at rates usually a bit more within reach than those just north of the border. Whether for dental care, body contouring, massage, or general healthcare, these offerings are continuing to increase in the area. Following 5 years in a smaller location in town, Dr. Sidhartha Hindú and his team from their former office Shakti y Biodermophama Medical Spa, which opened in 2006, moved their services into the very accessible Plaza del Sol located on Blvd. Fremont on the way toward Las Conchas. Expanding on their initial services of beauty medicine, botox, fills, facials, laser hair removal, and nutritional control, the business renamed as Acqua Medical Nutrition & Medical Spa now offers a variety of spa services, medical services – including nutrition programs as well as plastic surgery, cellular regeneration therapy, dermatology care, laser hair removal, and a gym. The well-equipped spa area includes a room with two manicure/pedicure massage chairs – perfect for a great girls’ day, three massage rooms and an area that can be set up with two massage tables for the Valentine’s couples massage, a jacuzzi for two, a relaxation room with two comfy lounges, and two ample restrooms/changing areas with cabin showers and a sauna.
Acqua Medical Nutrition & Medical Spa is in the front of Plaza del Sol along Blvd. Freemont and is open Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., as well as Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Appointments also accepted on weekends. There is currently parking in the back of the building while the road in front is being paved. Quizás sea por todas las velas y aromas relajantes de los aceites de masaje, o tal vez es como dice las hojas de presentación de Acqua, “un ritual de iniciación hacia la belleza, la armonía, y a la salud.”

A Spa Escapade
Never being one to pass up a spa opportunity, I jumped at the chance to “test-drive” one of the Valentine’s Day specials Acqua is running throughout the entire month of February.
The extensive customer service from Acqua Medical Nutrition & Medical Spa began before I even stepped in the door of their offices. Gina from the office called a few minutes after 9 to remind me of my appointment…at 9. Once in the office, Gina led me to one of the two spacious and bright changing/restrooms (also referred to as the wet areas) each equipped with a shower cabin and one with a conveniently sized sauna for two. A robe and sandals awaited, along with candles on the sink counter. I carefully followed Gina’s instructions before stepping into the computer controlled relaxation and steam shower, which has four settings including overhead, a handheld shower “phone,” 6 small side showerheads that pulsate water onto your back, and a fourth foot bath device. The control at the top has a setting to let hot steam spill into the comfortably enclosed space, and another button turns on the fan to draw the steam out. I relaxed as steam poured over and around me, though admittedly could not then see to find the controls in order to let the steam out and had to turn the shower mechanism off in order to find them. Deciding not to turn the steam back on, I chose the different shower settings and once again relaxed under the water flow…until I tried the foot bath and mistakenly pushed the cover back so a few bursts of water jumped out at me.
Bathed, robed, and ready, I was then led into one of the three cozy massage rooms at Acqua, again lit with candles and filled with soothing music and the sound of running water in the distance. There I eased up on the table and waited for Dulce to relieve me of any pain or stress. Dulce remarked the rooms are also equipped with a step-stool as necessary to assist those who may need an extra boost up onto the massage table. I could say more about the massage, though one of the last memories I had was Dulce asking if I would like a strong or relaxing treatment. I indicated I wanted a strong relaxing experience. It must have worked because the next thing I knew she instructed me to move over onto my back, and then a marvelous while later that part of the Valentine’s package was complete. It was now onto the facial.
Dulce wheeled in a complex looking mechanism and I could hear water beginning to heat up. When Dulce maneuvered a magic wand from the device, steam encircled my face as she went through the careful steps of applying and removing one relaxing mask and then another. Admittedly, I had not had a facial in… (perhaps, ever)…. and didn’t realize (or had forgotten) the deep cleansing part of the process. Dulce lived up to her namesake and was sweet through one or another of my odd face contortions. After applying and removing a final cleansing mask, Dulce informed me I was done. My heavenly experience had erased time, though really only about two hours had gone by.
There is something about a spa experience (though as you surely can tell by now I am by no means an expert at this) that seems to make me feel more radiant and of course more relaxed…and for some reason I also tend to feel thinner for a few escaping moments. Perhaps it’s all the pampering along with the rich aromas of the massage oils and candles. Or perhaps, as Acqua’s publicity foretells “(this is) an initiation ritual toward beauty, harmony, and health.” Whatever it is, it’s a great Valentine’s Day gift for a loved one, for a day with the girls, or just for you!
