Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño announced construction on a new landfill for Puerto Peñasco will come sooner than expected as Encántame Resorts has committed to contribute up to 50% of resources needed for the project.
In a press conference, Governor Durazo remarked that following his visit to Puerto Peñasco and Sonoyta earlier this week he received a commitment from Encántame Resorts CEO Miguel Guevara Askar to contribute 16 million pesos of the 32 required for a new landfill in the city.
Durazo Montaño detailed there is already an executive project for a new landfill in Puerto Peñasco, though this requires an investment of 32 million pesos. To put the commitment of 16 million pesos from Encántame Resorts into the project an agreement will need to be signed between the Secretary of Infrastructure and Urban Development, the City of Puerto Peñasco, and the development group. This will provide for the bidding process to start, along with the work itself, initiating in a first phase with the funds committed by Encántame Resorts and the second phase funded by the State Government.
Encántame Resorts CEO Miguel Guevara Askar remarked the committed funds would become available for the new landfill once the State Government is ready to begin work. He further detailed they also possess machinery to assist the project.
Guevara Askar underscored the decision of Encántame Resorts to help address the city’s landfill needs comes as this is a priority for Puerto Peñasco. He added, you can’t promote and sell a destination that continually has pollution caused by inadequate waste management.
The Road to Encántame
Governor Durazo added that Encántame Resorts has also committed to adopt 15 kilometers of the Puerto Peñasco-Caborca highway, consisting of the stretch from Blvd. Josefa Ortiz to the Encántame Resorts entrance. This would now mean providing road maintenance in that area, along with other improvements, to the benefit of all. *It is worth noting Encántame Resorts adopted this stretch over 2 years ago to help ensure general clean-up efforts.
