Though the vaccination process against Covid-19 has begun among local health workers, the bi-national Rocky Point Medical Clinics has seen the need to adjust their health clinic program for 2021.
Rocky Point Medical Clinic Director, Loly Martinez, detailed the organization, along with the Palabras de Esperanza Community Center housed in the same location, will resume some of the activities they had to stop once the pandemic hit last year. Yet, they still had to postpone their first clinic, planned for January, due to raising covid concerns in neighboring municipalities as well as Arizona.
Martinez stressed the goal is to continue working in the area of San Rafael in order to continue with efforts, begun over 20 years go by Dr. George Stavros and his wife Susie Stavros, in addressing local healthcare needs.
Martinez detailed, prior to the pandemic, the bi-national non-governmental organization had been holding up to 20 health clinics annually within the community. In recent years, the center’s infrastructure has grown to include over 8 buildings that house medical consultation spaces, a prosthesis center, periodic dental and vision clinics, and meal programs, among others.
