Funkalicious Beach VolleyBall will be back on Puerto Peñasoco’s beaches this coming weekend, after having to cancel the Spring tournament at the onset of the pandemic this year. April’s cancellation was the first time in 11 years Funkalicious Volleyball didn’t make their Spring trek to Rocky Point. Organizers explain usually they hit our local beaches twice a year and are glad to be back for the Fall!
Desi McConnell of Funkalicious describes they’ve had to make some adjustments for the November beach volleyball tournament, obtaining an additional City permit to go along with the federal beach permit to make it happen.
“This time we’ve cut capacity to half and have 42 teams playing. 5 levels/divisions of skills. 5 prize packages,” explains Desi, “We are donating proceeds to local Bomberos who will also be onsite to monitor health and safety measures.”
The socially coastal distant games of Funkalicious Volleyball #24 in Rocky Point are Saturday, Nov. 7th, in front of Las Palomas Beach & Golf Resort.
McConnell’s excitement to be back at the beach is palpable, noting “though this tournament will be half capacity, we hope to bring some benefits to our favorite community south of the border. We are very proud and happy to have had longtime sponsorship from Boo Bar, Wrecked at The Reef, Las Palomas, and La Curva.”
