The 8th annual “Por los caminos de Kino” hike through the Pinacate, rescheduled for April 12th – 13th, will include the posthumous honoring of Mr. Roque Celaya Zazueta.
This year’s “Caminata” will include visits to the Emilia tank and Cono Rojo crater, as well as the opportunity to scale to the peak.
The traditional Kino hike is coordinated through the City’s Office on Citizens’ Affairs along with the Pinacate Biosphere and Grand Desert of Altar (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Together, they assist with logistics and support for the group of more than 100 people who take part in the two day outdoor event.
This year, a special addition to the event will be the placing of and unveiling of a stone with a representative image of the late Mr. Roque Celaya. Celaya is remembered as one of the founders and promoters of the yearly hikes along the trails of the Pinacate.
Priest Claudio Murrieta, who will be in attendance from Pitiquito, will be showing participants a video about the missions of Father Francisco Eusebio Kino. In addition, UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico) history student Tamara Aranda will be presenting a message concerning the history of the region.
There is no cost for the caminata, though a maximum of about 150 people to ensure the ecosystem of the protected area is not harmed.
Por los caminos de Kino rendirá homenaje al Sr. Roque Celaya Zazueta

Un homenaje póstumo al señor Roque Celaya Zazueta harán en la octava caminata “Por los caminos de Kino” la cual se llevara a cabo el próximo 12 y 13 de abril.
En esta edición los participantes visitarán la tinaja Emilia y el Cono Rojo hasta donde subirán quienes así lo dispongan.
Como un evento tradicional la caminata “Por los caminos de Kino” es coordinada por la Dirección de Atención Ciudadana del Ayuntamiento y la Reserva de la Biosfera del Pinacate y Gran Desierto de Altar instancias que promueven desde la logística y el apoyo al grupo de más de cien participantes.
Este año como un evento especial se colocará y develará una piedra con una imagen representativa del señor Roque Celaya acaecido en meses pasados y a quien se le recuerda como uno de los fundadores y promotores de las caminatas por los senderos del Pinacate.
Como parte de la información que se ofrecerá a los participantes se proyectará un video sobre las misiones del padre Francisco Eusebio Kino por parte del sacerdote Claudio Murrieta quien vendrá desde Pitiquito , también se contara con la participación de la estudiante de historia en la UNAM Tamara Aranda quien ofrecerá un mensaje relativo a la historia de esta región.
La caminata no tendrá costo alguno y se prevé un máximo de 150 personas con el fin de no afectar al ecosistema de esta área protegida.
