Puerto Peñasco celebrates Mexico’s win over Germany with cheers of victory!
It was a morning filled with the flavors of victory, beer, and Mexican delights across area bars, restaurants, homes, and even work places last Sunday – el Día del Padre – the day Mexico faced off against four-time World Champion Germany in the 2018 World Cup.
Relatively low expectations for Mexico before the game were suddenly tossed aside as the Mexican players took the field, revealing both strength and a positive attitude. Excitement burst when Hirving “Chuky” Lozano scored the first and only goal of the match, surprising even the toughest of skeptics. GOOOOOOOOOOOLL!
As the phenomenal game ended, the Mexican roar across Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Russia was echoed in Mexico City at the infamous Angel de la Independencia where more than 75,000 people gathered to celebrate (as is tradition), and across the nation!
Puerto Peñasco was no exception as restaurants and bars celebrated with ecstatic people proudly waving the Mexican flag. Race, nationality, and politics were not an issue that morning, that morning when everyone cheered for Mexico – that Father’s Day. It was indeed a great Sunday, one that left everybody with a great feeling, and more importantly, a Mexican VICTORY!
Mexico’s next World Cup appearance will be this Saturday, again at 8 a.m., facing South Korea who fell to Sweden. Mexico, South Korea, Germany, and Sweden make up Group F at the 2018 World Cup – with the top two advancing to the round of 16. Be sure to catch the action at your favorite Rocky Point watering hole…hmm, that serves breakfast and sports!
