The multitude of people who streamed into Puerto Peñasco this past US Memorial Day Weekend were met with a bit of wind, spectacular sunshine, terrific beaches, and in some cases a lack of water due to a burst pipe that occurred just as the crowds were making their way to town. Rental and property management companies, as well as area hotels and resorts, jumped into action and had tanks of water brought in from as far away as Sonoyta. Not only tourists, but area residents were left without water for a number of days though crew from the local water company, OOMAPAS, worked diligently to fix the break. The cause of the rupture remains unknown though Oomapas Director Armando Portugal told El Diario reporter Azucena Mazón it may have been a pocket of air that, due to the pressure, led to the burst. Unfortunately, there was a further set back after someone hit one of the replacement pipes that had come in.
Reports in papers around the area, as well as local radio programs, indicate the repairs are about complete and water should be restored across the area.
