The “Beautify your Street” contest along the curios street popularly known as “Rodeo Drive” has begun the voting phase on the 17 murals created by artists who participated in the event.
Organized by real estate agent Ellie Balderrama, in coordination with business owner Eddie Wharez and Erick Plata, the project aimed to beautify the area by providing a bit more color to shops along “Rodeo Drive” on the way to La Cholla. Seventeen local businesses offered their space for the contest, which were decorated by a dozen local artists.
During the first stage of the contest, artists took to creating murals with themes encompassing the region, ethnic groups, desert landscapes, as well as flora and fauna. These works of art were made possible through sponsors, and then photographed as the contest came to a close on Sept. 7th. From Sept. 7th – 21st, photographs of the murals can be voted on by the wider community online. The entire community is invited to vote on the artwork, by visiting the “Mexican Rodeo Drive” Facebook page to cast votes: Mexican Rodeo Drive
Prizes for winners include 7,000 pesos for first place, 5,000 pesos for second and 4,000 pesos for third.
The creation of the colorful murals has drawn the attention of tourists and locals alike, grasping the chance to take pictures of the murals while visiting shops …adding to the memories to take home.
