It’s almost time for feathers, masks, and colorful floats parading down the middle of Blvd. Benito Juarez. Rocky Point is preparing for it’s 2012 Carnaval! This year’s VIVE LA FIESTA! Live the Fiesta!! Carnaval activities will take place from Feb. 17 – 21 and include various artistic performances by the likes of Grupo Laberinto, Adán Romero, Chico Elizalde, Banda Sierreño “La Perrona,” and Lorenzo de Monteclaro, and more! Parades, filled with colorful floats, bands, and extravagant groups are planned for Feb. 18, 19 and 21st.
Carnaval rides and the main stage for presentations will be set up once again in the esplanade of Hotel Peñasco del Sol, with a 50 pesos charge for adults and 20 pesos for children on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17 & 18, and again on Tuesday, Feb. 21st, though entrance will be Free on Sunday (the 19th) and Monday (the 20th).
During the official press announcement on Jan. 19th, MayorAlejandro Zepeda Munro – who was surrounded by colorful feathers, glitter, and masks – remarked they are expecting the 2012 Carnaval to draw in nearly 40,000 people to participate in the various activities. This is the third consecutive year Carnaval activities have made their return to Puerto Peñasco and all proceeds from the festivities will go to the local DIF (Office on Integral Family Development).
Contest nominations for the Carnaval Queen and “the Ugly King” are open now and can be presented at the International Relations office at City Hall up until Jan. 27th. Registration is open until Feb. 10th for floats and groups wishing to participate in the parades.
