Dec. 1st marks the beginning of daily pilgrimage processions departing around 5 p.m., this year from various parts in town. These processions lead up to Dec. 12th the Day of the Virgen de Guadalupe, or rather the patron saint of Mexico. Though not federally mandated, Dec. 12th is frequently a bank/school/office holiday around town.
The invitation to the community to participate in the evening processions are as follows:
Dec. 1st – 5 p.m. Starting point: Old Port – General invitation to the Catholic community
Dec. 2nd – 5 p.m. Starting point: Hotel Peñasco del Sol – Biblical school, those working in the hotel, restaurant, and tourism industries, and City Officials
Dec. 3rd – 5 p.m. Starting point: Capilla de San Juan XXIII – Transportation drivers: taxis, dump trucks, transit police
Dec. 4th – 4 p.m. Starting point: Cerro de la Virgen Km 6 – Those employed in commerce: butchers, convenience stores, street vendors, and the Fire Department
Dec. 5th – 5 p.m. Starting point: General Hospital – Nurses, Social Security workers, Red Cross, Doctors, and pharmacists
Dec. 6th – 10:00 a.m. Starting point: Capilla de la Sagrada Familia – For children in catechism and their parents
Dec. 6th – 5:00 p.m. Starting point: Capilla de la Sagrada Familia – Directors of boat builders, employees, packing companies, and Rescue workers
Dec. 7th – 5:00 p.m. Departing from Port – Christian Family Movement and railroad workers, mechanics, carpenters, ironsmiths
Dec. 8th – 4:00 p.m. Departing from Capilla de San José in La Cholla – Office workers, CFE employees, TelMex workers
Dec. 9th – 5:00 p.m. Departure from: Templo de San Francisco – Leadership of San Francisco
Dec. 10th – 5:00 p.m. Departure from San Judas – Leadership of San Judas
Dec. 11th – 5:00 p.m. Departure from the Capilla del Puerto joined by musical groups and the entire community of Puerto Peñasco, accompanied by floats and Peñasco riding clubs
Dec. 12th – Mass 8 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m.
There will be a traditional fair held at the Guadalupe Church from Wednesday, Dec. 10th – Friday, Dec. 12th which will also include the traditional “castle burning” and celebrations on Dec. 12th.
