Puerto Peñasco, Sonora. Aug. 14, 2017. To preserve and care for wildlife in Puerto Peñasco, the municipal administration put a turtle nest and recently laid eggs located along Sandy Beach under the care of the Federal Agency for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA).
César García González of the Federal Maritime Land Zone (ZOFEMAT), detailed they together with the Tourist Auxiliary Unit informed PROFEPA about the event, which coordinated with the Clean Beach Committee to oversee the turtle’s arrival and safe laying of eggs in front of the Las Palmas condominiums, and roping off of the nest area.
PROFEPA officials were expected in coming days to determine appropriate procedures to follow for the care of the turtle eggs, or moving the eggs to incubate them elsewhere as has successfully been done in the past.
