Mixing traditions is what Puerto Peñasco is all about, and never more so than the overlap of Day of the Dead and Halloween. This weekend, there’s the chance to get out, get dirty, get dressed up, view altars, join a procession of Catrinas, and of course candy and comida! Let’s run down the weekend!
Roads: Overpass construction continues just north of town. Remain alert to short detours. First intersection when entering town is open (Blvd Juarez / Blvd Ocaña / Blvd Josefa) though remain alert to road work on Blvd Josefa – and odd detours – if heading that route.

An altar contest, along with a procession of “Catrinas” are sure to enthrall all interested in Mexican traditions, sugar skulls, Day of the Dead, art, music, and dance! The Altars will be available for viewing each evening beginning at 5 p.m. – on Friday, we also HIGHLY recommend visiting the local COBACH Altar contest (at the COBACH high-school across from Lluvia del Mar hotel). On Saturday, October 31st, the altars will once again be on display along “Rodeo Drive” beginning at 5 p.m. (with parking areas available near the entrance to “Rodeo Drive” just past the train tracks [Free parking]). Beginning at 9 p.m., a procession of Catrinas/Catrinos will engulf the “drive” – with the presence of more than 100 individuals of all ages with their best Day of the Dead “skeletonish reflections.”
