Tremor goes unperceived in Puerto Peñasco

In recent days pelicans have been seen walking along city streets. This unusual situation is understood by some as nature’s way of pointing to an upcoming natural event.

Curiously, a quake registering 4.9 on the Richter scale, with epicenter in the Gulf of California, took place at 4:53 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11th 133 kilometers (approx. 82 miles) south of Puerto Peñasco though with no reports of damage.

Ernesto Portugal García, State Director of Civil Protection, confirmed this information after the National Seismological Service reported on the natural phenomenon.

The quake, which took place 10 kilometers deep and was not followed by any tremors, was not felt by the population in Puerto Peñasco and even went unnoticed within most of the local news and social networks. Portugal García indicated there are no reports of subsequent tremors in the area of Puerto Peñasco.
