Just past 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17th, as the 4675 engine made its way from Caborca into Puerto Peñasco on its way to Mexicali, a number of trailers derailed along the stretch between Blvd. Josefa Ortiz and Ave. Sinaloa in the eastern part of the city.
The trailers themselves landed on their side just off the tracks, through barely 30 feet from some of the residences in the area. The train had been carrying cement, part of which was spilled at the scene.
The derailment, which fortunately did not cause any injuries, was apparently caused by the poor state of parts of the tracks, and led to damage of railroad ties.
Though no one was injured, both Red Cross and Fire Department staff were on hand following the incident, along with State Investigative and municipal police.
Ferromex staff, in charge of the railroad, have been inspecting the tracks in order to analyze damage and begin work to remove the damaged trailers.
