Without an exact number as of yet, and true it’s always hard to get an official account, the 16th Annual Rocky Point Rally easily surpassed expectations for its Sweet 16 over three days filled with amazing weather, city streets lined with bikes, numerous concert venues, awesome bike trophies, Tijuana rock & blues legend Javier Batiz, and a longer bike parade route, topped off with an air show that happened to be taking place over the same weekend! Some folk were heard remarking on numbers of over 10K as in the amount of bikes, though more official numbers will come later on. What is for sure is that for a second year in a row, bike parking extended down the malecón on Saturday (the main fiesta day) all the way up to Viña del Mar! Stepping off the malecón, parking lots at area hotels and resorts, plus up and down Calle 13 also seemed to be full…by day and night! Traditional Calle 13 fiesta activities were in full swing each night, plus sponsor bars along the malecón kept the party going into the wee hours with lots of live music! There was definitely something for just about everyone…oh yeah, and did we mention there was also a skateboard competition in town?
In coming days we’ll be sure to get photo galleries up, plus more news! All in all comments from participants, organizers, and residents is how this year’s rally surely surpassed #s from last year! Even before the bikes started to roll in last week, hotels, resorts, and even beach home rentals were reporting to be full or well over any other year’s occupancy levels for rally weekend!
NOTE: Heading back North on Sunday via the coastal highway toward El Golfo and CA unfortunately left some folk with an ill taste – after a great weekend in Rocky Point – as recently repaved areas had loose gravel in spots. If you are headed back that way, please be watchful for sand and gravel on roads! On the highway toward Sonoyta, please remain alert to rough patches particularly between KM 30 – 15 when heading North.
