Puerto Peñasco granted White Flag as Sustainable Clean Beach

Puerto Peñasco, Sonora. June 9, 2017. Puerto Peñasco was awarded the White Flag representing Sustainable Clean Beaches by the Federal Government during the XII National Clean Beach Meeting held in Bahías Banderas, Riviera del Estado de Nayarit. It is important to recall on March 2nd of this year, the Federal Government via the National Water Commission (CONAGUA) presented the municipal administration of Puerto Peñasco with certification of 1525 lineal meters of Clean Sustainable Beach. With this, Puerto Peñasco became the first beach in Sonora to receive Clean Beach certification and the longest stretch of beach in the country to be recognized as such.
“SocoFest 2017” planned for Emergency Responders Day

June 9, 2017. The local Red Cross extends an invitation to emergency responders from across the state to the “2017 SocoFest”, to be held June 24th – 25th in honor of the June 24th Emergency Responders Day. The goal, explained local Red Cross Board President Julio Valenzuela, is to recognize emergency responders while also creating an event that can be celebrated at the state level.
Local Police tend to tourist home birth

Puerto Peñasco, Sonora. June 8, 2017. Members of the Municipal Safety Department came to the assistance of a tourist visiting from the U.S. who went into labor at a home in the Obrera neighborhood, reported Police Chief Marco Preciado Hernández. The event took place on Wednesday, June 8th, around 6:30 p.m. following response to an emergency call. Upon arrival, police and members of the local Red Cross assisted Brandy Davis (33) of Phoenix, AZ in giving birth. The healthy mother and child were then taken to the Puerto Peñasco General Hospital so they could be seen by medical staff.
Local Red Cross surpasses fundraising goals

June 7, 2017. The Annual Red Cross Fundraising Drive, which wrapped up on May 31st, raised just over 609,000 pesos in 2017, surpassing last year’s numbers as well as this year’s initial goals. The two and a half month fundraising drive, from March 14 – May 31, managed to raise 40,000 pesos from City officials, 108,000 pesos from local business owners, 30,000 pesos from the Naval Sector, as well as 431,000 pesos from collection buckets in distinct parts of the city (which represents 70% of the fundraising effort).
Students from ITSPP take first place in National Robotics Contest

June 5, 2017. For a second year in a row, students from the Superior Technological Institute of Puerto Peñasco (ITSPP) earned first place at the National Robotics Contest held June 3rd in Tapachula, Chiapas. The winning robotic team, assisted by teachers from the Engineering Academy in Computational Systems, included: Ernesto Castillo Rincón, Edgar Corrales Matuz, Aldo Hiram Delgado Piña, Alfredo Román López Cruz and Maritza Lizbeth Murrieta Zavala. As one of the 43 participating robotic teams, the ITSPP students earned first place in the Radio Robotics Contest.
