April 27th
Super early in the morning (well, for a Saturday) Starting around 7 a.m., grab a Bloody Mary and pick up a club at JJ’s Cantina for the Spring round of the 1 Club Open. What’s a “1 Club Open” you ask? It’s a golf tournament at low-tide in Cholla Bay where you use the same club for each “hole” (or rather, hula hoop with a flag). Tip: Wear shoes with tread and don’t wear white!
Rocky Point Triathlon at Las Palomas! – Triathletes hit the water around 9:30 a.m. (subject to tides) Following the swim in the Sea of Cortez, the bike route will head out of Las Palomas and out the new road linking to the Coastal Highway (DRIVERS: WATCH FOR CYCLISTS!!!), the run part of the triathlon (along with the 5K and 10K events) will make its way through The Links course at Las Palomas
Desert Races at Thunder on the Beach with FREE entry to spectators! Sportsmen Classes start around 9 a.m. and Pro Classes at 1 p.m.
Sand Castles more your style? The Fiestas del Desierto organization, with support from the local Architectural Association, is hosting a 2nd Sand Castle competition in front of Playa Bonita from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. If you’d like to register a “crew” beforehand, send a note to institutodeldesiertosonorense@gmail.com or just come by on Saturday in front of Playa Bonita.
Speaking of Playa Bonita, the MultiHull Fleeet 42 has planned for their Cinco de Mayo sail to take place April 27th & 28th so be on the look-out for beautiful sails out at sea.
If you’re off the beach, throw on some gloves and hook up with the Trash Mob which will hold a “mob” event on Saturday, April 27th, @ 9 AM- 11AM 281 Blvd. Fremont (Club Playa Gym y oficina de Realty Network de Mexico )
Did you know that April 23rd was International Book Day? Celebrate books and reading this Saturday with a Parade on Saturday 4/27 starting from Plaza del Camaron around 3 p.m. and making its way down Blvd. Juarez to Plaza la Madre (by the baseball stadium). Around 5 p.m. at Plaza la Madre the celebration will continue with artistic programs to help close out the week-long school Book Festival!
As long as we’re by the baseball stadium… the TIBURONES baseball season is back (really!) After beginning the season earlier in the week with games in Caborca, the Tiburones will host their first home game of the season against Caborca on Saturday, April 27th starting around 7:30 p.m. Another game is scheduled for Sunday, April 28th at 6 p.m. Tickets range from 40 – 50 pesos. (We’ll have schedule soon…we hope!)
In the mood for a late night fashion show? Swing by Baja Cantina on Sat., April 27th from 10 p.m. – 3 a.m. for bikinis and beachwear by moonlight.
With Children’s Day (April 30th) just around the corner, be on the look-out this weekend as well for children’s fiestas in community centers, parks, plazas, and neighborhoods.
April 28th
Family Bike Day in the Mirador! Enjoy a morning in the Mirador with the Peñasco Chamber of Commerce’s 1st Family Bike Day – registration starts at 10 a.m. and there’s also breakfast starting at 9 a.m. at the Pink Cadillac.
