On September 15th, about 50% of Puerto Peñasco’s shrimp fleet set out along the coast in anticipation of the Sept. 21st start to this year’s shrimp season. An official for the Harbor Master reported half of Rocky Point’s shrimp fleet, or rather 50 ships, will start the 2021-22 season for “pink gold” from other ports including Topolobampo, Yavaros, Guaymas, and Bahía de Kino.
Prior to departure, maritime authorities verify ships’ compliance with minimum safety measures on board, stressing boat owners exercise caution in maneuvers prior to leaving the port so as to prevent complications or delays.
