Charitable organizations, families, and businesses across Rocky Point have been severely impacted by the eight-month stretch (so far) of restrictions aimed at preventing the spread of covid-19. The yearlong activities of the Santa Claus Club are no exception.
After having to cancel the Spring cornhole fundraising tournament, John Fowler of the Santa Claus Club had hoped to be able to pull off the Fall event. Unfortunately, the Fall tournament has also been cancelled though fundraising activities persist.
2020 Raffle tickets
Fowler invites people to assist with this year’s challenging fundraising activities, noting, “We are combining prizes from the Auction and prizes from the Cornhole raffle into one big raffle. Tickets are $2.00 each, 6 for $10.00, 13 for $20.00 and 40 for $50.00. There are boat trips, hotel stays, rounds of golf, restaurant gift certificates and certificates for local Rocky Point activities. 100% of the money raised will be used for the families in the barrios of Rocky Point. We need your help so we can help the families. This has been a rough year for everyone.”
Raffle drawings will be held over Thanksgiving weekend (list of raffle items below).
What started as strictly a holiday effort quite some time ago, prior to this year’s pandemic, The Santa Claus Club had grown into a year-round collection and distribution of toys, clothing, home supplies, bicycles, blankets, among other items for families in need across the community. Donations from The Santa Claus Club have also made their way to Amores de Peñasco Children’s Shelter, the “Casa Hogar” home for the elderly, area schools, health clinics, as well as support for other charitable organizations.
