Following a packed Memorial Day Weekend, with numbers from the local Convention and Visitors Bureau pointing to over 35,000 visitors who made their way to our beaches, Puerto Peñasco is not settling into a summer malaise any time soon. Let’s jump to the weekend rundown for a look at what’s coming up.
This Weekend
May 30th & 31st Event Expo 2013 at Quinta Ventura – Ideas and information on local services to help in planning your upcoming wedding, birthday, fiestanón, etc. May 30th 5 – 8 p.m., May 31st 10 – 8 p.m.
Marina Fest
The yearly fest surrounding Día de la Marina (Naval Day) continues this weekend at the Chamizal Event Center located on Blvd. Juarez. Carnival rides are set up just behind Chamizal and concerts are lined up throughout the weekend.
May 31st – June 2nd 7th Annual Anniversary Golf Tournament at The Links course of Las Palomas Beach & Golf Resort
With the greens in perfect condition, we hear the tournament filled up quickly and there’s already a wait list! It’s a great weekend for golf!
Speaking of golf, if you’re not teeing up at the 7th Anniversary Tournament at The Links, make your way to the meticulously landscaped 9 holes at Laguna del Mar or take in the spectacular views at the Peninsula de Cortez course at Mayan Palace.
June 1
Día de la Marina / Naval Day – Honors to the Navy, fishermen and those who have been lost at sea. Formal celebration at the Malecón in the morning, followed by boat rides from the port so the community can pay their respects by tossing flower wreaths into the watery depths.
Garage Sale fundraiser for Santa Claus Club @ JJ’s Cantina (8 a.m. – 2 p.m.) + JJ’s Chili Cook-off!
Puerto Peñasco’s own Santa Claus (John Fowler) keeps busy throughout the year with weekly distributions of food, clothing, and other supplies to some of the city’s neediest areas.
For the Chili Cook-off: Turn in chili at 2 p.m. for judging. Tasting cups will be available for $3 US. Dig in!
June 2
Horse Races with part of funds going to local DIF. Races start around noon at the Palo Verde track near the intersection of Blvd. Godoy and Miguel Hidalgo (east side of Godoy). Turn onto Miguel Hidalgo from Blvd. Josefa Ortiz and continue East…continue…continue…continue…where you finally meeting up with the paved road of Blvd. Godoy. Adults 50 pesos / Children 20 pesos
All Star Baseball Game and Homerun Derby!
After a rough start to the season, the Tiburones baseball team has come back to sweep the competition in recent series. This Sunday, the Tiburones’ homefield welcomes the Liga Norte del Sonora All Star Game!! A Homerun Derby gets underway at 6 p.m. with the All-star game shortly thereafter! Take me out to the ball game!!

Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers head up this four-day celebration of music and good spirits, plus a reunion this year of The Refreshments and tunes from The Toluenes, La Merca, Random Karma, Jason Boots, Josh Kennedy (from The Black Moods), Shurman, Jim Dalton, The Pistoleros, The Jons, and of course Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers!
June 8th – “El Gallo” Estrada Boxing Circuit presents amateur and professional boxing in Puerto Peñasco with Women’s Middle-Weight Sonora title fight featuring Peñasco’s “La Tromba”.
June 8th – Rocky Point Medical Clinics to hold monthly clinic. Volunteer translators and medical folk welcome!
Tiburones Baseball! Back home for a 3 day series against Empalme June 7th – 9th. Check schedule.
