Once again, October brings with it a fanfare of music and we are ready to get started! In addition to Trop-Rock and Rock this weekend, on Sunday the local Music Academy will be performing at Plaza la Madre, and the 5th Jazz & Art Festival is just around the corner.
Let’s get right to it, and head into the Weekend Rundown:
Oct. 3rd – 7 p.m. CEDO Environmental Movie Night (part of their First Thursdays series, presenting films for FREE each month) Tonight’s show is: Wall-E
Oct. 4th
Get the day started by joining the Trash Mob – mobsters gather at 8:30 a.m. at the Club Playa Gym (Realty Network de Mexico) along Blvd. Fremont #281
A night of music with trop-rocker Mark Mulligan gets started at Caribbean Parrot (on Ave. Sinaloa just up from Capone’s) at 5 p.m. with local musician Jesse Gerardo. Next week Jesse will be headed to Nogales for a 25th anniversary celebration as a musician, so what better way to sing for us here in Rocky Point than to open up for Mark Mulligan! Mark takes the stage around 6 p.m. No entry though donations will be collected at the door for a number of local charities (supported by the Las Conchas Community Relations Committee).
On Friday night the music continues from near the Mirador to out in Cholla Bay. Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers are bringing Acousticus to our shores for two great nights of music. On Friday, things get started at 9 p.m. at JJ’s Cantina in Cholla Bay. We hear there may be a few tickets left at the door.
Oct. 5th
After a night of music, get up and head back to JJ’s to pick out a club (yes, just one club) for their biannual One Club Open. The low tide is set for the morning, with start time around 7 a.m. but be sure to check with Joe at JJ’s to sign up.
If you happen to be in the malecón sometime early afternoon, swing by the Beach Bum for more music as the day marches toward sunset.
At 8 p.m., Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers will be back at it with a surely to be sold-out performance at Wrecked at the Reef. Check to see if tickets are still available: www.circusmexicus.net
Oct. 6th
Following a weekend of music, grab a bicycle on Sunday and join the Pelicanos de Peñasco bike club to help celebrate their 5th Anniversary. Both men’s and women’s categories take off at 8 a.m. from the Barclin’s Circle K along the Puerto Peñasco – Sonoyta Highway.
In town, from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m., visit Plaza la Madre to hear the work of young musicians from the local Music Academy. There will be food for sale, part of fundraising efforts for the Academy to purchase more instruments.
