For a 7th consecutive time, Puerto Peñasco has been selected as outlying host for the International Cervantino Festival (FIC) now in its 49th year. With both in-person and virtual presentations, this year’s FIC brings together over 110 performances of artists and groups from across the world from Oct. 13th – Nov 5th.
This year’s Cervantino Festival centers around the theme of “Identity”, with Cuba as the invited country and Coahuila as the invited Mexican state to highlight. Performances from 81 venues in Guanajuato will be broadcast across the City’s social media platforms and, for a first time, will be shown on large screens in local neighborhoods as a wall to promote the arts throughout the community.
Local screens will be installed at community centers (Oct 20 – Nov 5) in the San Rafael and Obrera neighborhoods, as well as at the Art Kiosk at Shrimp Plaza. This is part of the larger program “Más Allá de Guanajuato” (MAG – Beyond Guanajuato). Facebook audiences will be able to view performances on the City’s Facebook page: Gobierno de Puerto Peñasco from Oct. 14th – 29th with performances by the Montreal Symphonic Orchestra, Italian dance group No Gravity, National Opera Company of the Institute of Fine Arts and Literature, the CEPROMUSIC ensemble, National Theater Company, as well as the China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater, among others.
Municipal Arts and Culture Coordinator Beatriz Salido Macías remarked, “This year’s FIC will include posthumous homage to the multi-faceted Puerto Peñasco Vogar Ozuna Monge, as we remember his life and work through an exhibition of his paintings at the Art Kiosk.”
The “Más Allá de Guanajuato” concept over social media platforms aims to provide cultural offerings while protecting the health of artists, staff, and audiences.
The International Cervantino Festival performances may be viewed on social media platforms of the City of Puerto Peñasco, as well as online at festivalcervantino.gob.mx
