Puerto Peñasco is maintaining an 80% occupancy rate at area hotels with some beach front accommodations reaching up to 100%.
Tourism, including younger people and entire families principally from the U.S. at area condo/hotels, has led to occupancy rates from 15% at spots on the outskirts to 100% at beach front complexes.
So reports Héctor Vázquez del Mercado, President of the Puerto Peñasco Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV), assuring that following Memorial Day weekend the city has maintained a strong increase in tourism from the U.S.
In addition to regular tourism from Arizona and California, the first weekend of June included visitors who made their way to Puerto Peñasco for Circus Mexicus, which included the main event concert of Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers. This drew approximately 5,000 people, representing about 20% of hotel occupancy over the weekend of June 6 – 8.
The OCV President indicated events of such magnitude are always welcome in Puerto Peñasco given the tourism potential they represent. He noted Circus Mexicus is now a traditional festival for tourism from the U.S., positioning the port as a place to visit each summer, and also helping to support beneficial projects for the community.
To maintain a continued increase in tourism percentages, a national promotional campaign is being programmed across social media networks, television, and in print in order to reach tourism markets in the states of Chihuahua, Baja California, and Sonora as thousands of visitors come to Puerto Peñasco from these areas each vacation season.
