This past week, Puerto Peñasco residents 40-49 years were invited to the ExpoCenter Convention Center for a second shot of the AstraZeneca vaccine against Covid-19. On the final day of the event, the invitation was extended to those 18+ awaiting a first vaccine shot in the state and nationwide covid-vaccination campaign.
Ricardo Ibarra, local coordinator of the National Centro Integrador del Bienestar – Integrative Center for Well-Being – detailed during the four-day event they were able to apply all of the 5720 shots provided. He furthered this brings the total of vaccine shots (of various brands) given out to persons 18 and over in Puerto Peñasco to 50,086, with approximately 97% of those who received shots being fully vaccinated.
Ibarra highlighted the valuable participation of the Ministry of Health, City administration, Ministry of the Mexican Navy, and volunteers in the recent vaccination campaign. He added, while the number of doses allocated to Puerto Peñasco this time were all applied, they have not ruled out future campaigns for those 18 and over who have not yet received any covid vaccination.
No covid vaccines have been approved in Mexico to date for those under 18.
According to data from the files of local news outlet Ahora Noticias XEQC, approximately 36,900 people 18+ have received a covid vaccine in Puerto Peñasco, representing about 60% of the population.
