For those who prefer to avoid the sand and salt water at the beach, there’s also the option to visit pools located at condos or hotels where one may be staying, or even spots where for a small fee one can access the pool areas open to the public.
According to information from Armando Sánchez, Head of Health Control, pools in Puerto Peñasco are a healthy family option provided that studies have shown area pools to free of free-living amoeba (AVL).
Sánchez indicated there are 47 pools listed within the city that are monitored constantly to ensure they are free of bacteria, and that both tourists and residents alike can take a dip with absolute confidence. When risk factors are detected, he added, hotel operators are immediately informed to remove the water and take necessary steps in order to provide optimum operating conditions.
In addition to pool amenities for those staying at area hotels, there are a few that are open to the public at a small fee such as Hotel Baja Cantina (about 50 pesos per person) in the area of the Mirador, Pink Cadillac pool area in the Mirador (Wed. thru Sun., 11 a.m. to close), and Corona del Sol in Las Conchas (50 pesos/person).
Be sure to take care of children around pool areas, using lifevests when possible.
Enjoy the summer!
