A water burst in a 30″ pipe led to a lack of water in some neighborhoods of Puerto Peñasco on Saturday, June 22nd, while staff from OOMAPAS (City Water) worked to repair the damage and regularize service.
Héctor Acosta Félix, director of OOMAPAS (Municipal Water, Sewage, and Sanitation Office), stated the burst line was reported around 2:30 a.m. and originated near the intersection of Blvd. Freemont and Sinaloa. Currently work is still being done to repair the line so that water services can be restored sometime this afternoon or evening.
Acosta Félix added by closing off valves in order to do repairs on the line, water service would be interrupted in many parts of the city as only stored water would be available. The OOMAPAS Director made assurances the lack of water would not impact the entire community, and they hope services will be restored soon (Saturday, June 22). He stated possible causes for the pipe burst may be from water pressure or manufacturing defects with the line. He added now with this burst, there have been three such occurrences in the past 8 months.

Una fuga de agua en un acueducto de 30 pulgadas originó la falta del liquido vital en algunas colonias de Puerto Peñasco, personal de Oomapas trabaja para reparar la avería y regularizar el servicio.
Héctor Acosta Félix director del organismo Operador Municipal de Agua Potable, Alcantarillado y Saneamiento informó que la considerable fuga originada en Freemont y Sinaloa se reportó a las 2:30 de la madrugada y actualmente se realizan trabajos de reparación para que esta misma tarde el servicio de abastecimiento de agua de normalice.
Indicó que debido al cierre de las válvulas para realizar las obras de reparación es que el subministro de agua no alcanzó a llegar a la mayor parte de las tomas domiciliarias y solo se utiliza lo acumulado en aljibes.
El director de Oomapas aseguró que el servicio de distribución del vital liquido no afectará a toda la población y se espera que para las 5:00 de la tarde el servicio regrese a su normalidad en la ciudad.
Señaló que las posibles causas que originaron la fuga son la fuerte presión o algún defecto de fábrica del tubo.
Acosta Félix comentó que con esta avería suman 3 las fugas de esta magnitud en los últimos 8 meses.
