Following months of construction, the Monumento al Pescado was finally inaugurated on Monday, February 17th, marking the reopening of Calle 13, where final touches were being made to the pavement.
The sailfish statue, built with the goal of offering both the local community and tourists a representative figure of the history and roots of the port, is made out of fiberglass and mounted on a concrete based covered with piñón cantera and river rock. Investment in the project topped 740,000 pesos.
At the formal inauguration ceremony, with numerous former Mayors in attendance, information was presented on the work done along Calles 12 and 13 as well as the stretch of Plutarco Elias Calles (near Sushi Sun), in which nearly 20 million pesos in federal funds were used.
During the inaugural ceremony, Mayor Gerardo Figueroa Zazueta thanked residents for their patience and stressed the sole intent of this project is to offer a figure honoring a bit of the history of Puerto Peñasco.
Heberto Reyna, City Director of Public Projects, detailed the project modifies traffic routes as vehicles may no longer make a left turn onto Calle 13 when going South to North (from the Old Port along Blvd. Juarez). This is apparently meant to improve traffic flow along Blvd. Benito Juarez. Entrance onto Calle 13 may now only be from East to West (Ave. Miguel Hidalgo on north side of Santander bank) or in turning right off Blvd. Juarez when coming in from the North.
Tips: Some options to get onto Calle 13 when approaching from the South (Old Port) include: 1. Turn right on Blvd. Kino (after train tracks) and then take your first left onto Constitución, continue along Constitución to Ave. Miguel Hidalgo (approx. 3 blocks), turn left on Hidalgo (which turns into Calle 13). 2. When coming from Old Port, following intersection of Blvd. Juarez and Calle 13, turn left at next block Ave. Comonfort (CFE office), go one block to Constitución, turn right on Constitución and return to Ave. Miguel Hidalgo, turn right on Hidalgo (which turns into Calle 13). 3. When coming from Old Port, take Ave. Luis Encinas next to CitiCinemas and continue North to Calle 13.
Inauguración del Monumento al Pescado: Se modifica circulación vehicular

Tras meses de construcción finalmente fue inaugurado el monumento al Pescado en el cruce de calle 13 y Juárez a la vez que se reanudó la circulación vial por la calle 13 donde finalizaron los trabajos de pavimentación.
La estatua del pez vela edificada con el fin de ofrecer a la comunidad y turistas una esfinge representativa de la historia y raíces del puerto fue fabricada en fibra de vidrio y montada en una base de concreto cubierto de cantera de piñón y piedra bola cuya obra ascendió a 740 mil pesos.
En el evento protocolario de inauguración de dio a conocer que en la pavimentación de la calle 12 y 13 así como el tramo de la calle Plutarco Elias Calles se aplicaron recursos federales cercanos a los 20 millones de pesos.
Ahí el presidente municipal agradeció la paciencia de los habitantes y resaltó que la única intención de esta obra es ofrecer en una figura algo de la historia de Puerto Peñasco.
Por su parte el director de obras publicas Heberto Reyna dio a conocer que con estas obra se modifica la circulación con lo que se cancelada la vuelta izquierda de Sur a Oeste para una supuesta mayor fluidez al tráfico vehicular que circula por el bulevar Benito Juárez de Sur a Norte mientras que para ingresar a la calle 13 deberá hacerse de de norte a sur y de este a oeste por la calle Miguel Hidalgo (extención de la calle 13 después del Blvd. Juarez).
