Though the summer season has not yet begun, occupancy rates at area hotels and resorts are already registering from 15% to 100% for the coming months. Due to the peso exchange rate, among other reasons, explains Héctor Vázquez del Mercado of the Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV), they are forecasting a considerable increase in summer visitors, particularly from the U.S.
The OCV President indicated beginning Memorial Day weekend at the end of May is when the number of tourists from the U.S. rises for this beach spot. Similarly, Mexican tourism is expected to rebound around mid July once families are on vacation.
Vázquez del Mercado emphasized along with Memorial Day, the upcoming concert of Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers (Circus Mexicus June 9-12) is an important event that draws in thousands of visitors. He also remarked upon the important promotional campaigns for Puerto Peñasco the OCV has carried out recently in Arizona and California, as well as Chihuahua and Baja California, and presence at the recent Tourism Fair in Guadalajara.
