Sofía Meléndez Tiznado, Felipe Eduardo Alarcón Arreola, and Rafael Espinoza Navarro, three outstanding students from COBACH high school in Puerto Peñasco fulfilled their goal of qualifying for the World Educational Robot Contest 2017 (WER) to be held in Shanghai, China, after placing among the top 11 teams during the recent national competition dubbed the “Mexico Open” in León, Guanajuato.

The three students, under the team name Yanzú, are readying to participate in the international competition scheduled to be held Nov. 18th -19th in China.  It’s worth noting Yanzú beat over 180 other teams from across the country, earning them the right to represent Mexico in the upcoming international robotics tournament!

Peñasco Cobach principal Isela Gamboa Hernández stressed it is of course a source of pride for the students to represent Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, and Mexico. She added, the school will provide as much support as possible for the team, so they can repeat their success in Shanghai. Among these activities is a “Shanghaiton”, to be held Oct. 27th along with the traditional Day of the Dead altar contest.
