Along with drawing scores of fans to their annual January Jam and Circus Mexicus concerts in Rocky Point, Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers provide an important boost to the local economy. Their events, which go well beyond concerts to include a winter golf tournament, summer beach soccer, and raffles, have positioned themselves as opportunities to directly support local organizations and community efforts across Puerto Peñasco.
Each RCPM event, from acoustic performances at Banditos to the January sarape clad jam at JJ’s, and of course Circus Mexicus guarantee live music, fiesta, and fellowship for all the fans – who really are more like an extended family. Plus, each RCPM shindig has proven to be worthwhile in raising funds and paying it forward via a message of good vibes, charity, and positive spirit.
In just mentioning a few of the charitable actions that Puerto Peñasco’s rockin’ “hijo adoptado” coastal musician Roger Clyne and his crew of Peacemakers have contributed to the area over the past 15 years or so: the once pre-Circus “Hot Dog and a Smile” fundraiser for Esperanza para los Niños children’s home at JJ’s, sports equipment donations for the Puerto Peñasco Youth Sports Foundation gathered at the annual Rock ‘n Soccer tourney, the January Mexican Moonshine Golf Classic (since 2013), direct donation of gear to Peñasco’s Tourism Auxiliary Unit, plus proceeds from fundraising for the local scholarship program of the Municipal DIF (Family Services Office), oh and don’t forget raffles, raffles, and raffles. The charitable reach of RCPM has also embraced organizations in Puerto Peñasco from wheelchair basketball to equine therapy, dialysis center to Barb’s Pet Rescue as fans themselves (affectionately deemed “peacemakers”) take it on their own to give back.
At the decade celebration of RCPM’s January Jam, to be held in Rocky Point Jan. 12th – 14th, the “what’s good for you is good for me” spirit lives on! Proceeds from Saturday’s Mexican Moonshine Golf Classic go to local charities, which includes taking a stab at a wealth of raffle prizes. Not golfing? No problema! Raffle Tickets will be available at Will Call all day Friday, at JJ’s Friday night, and at the Mexican Moonshine Golf Classic at Las Palomas on Saturday morning.
