Framed images of the Old Boys Social Club’s three decades of their annual BBQ & Bash adorn beams of the Community Center in Cholla Bay. Over those three decades, along with fiesta and BBQ, the OBSC has continually raised an average of $500 US yearly for the local Lion’s Club. In recent years, explains OBSC President Jerry Caballero, they’ve expanded the fundraiser to include a similar amount for the local DIF (Family & Services organization – Office on Integral Family Development).
Under a spectacular late April sky, the OBSC was back at it again this past Saturday, with BBQ, fantastic silent auction items (since I haven’t been contacted yet I guess my bids were beat out), fundraising games, music, dancing, and …oh yes, trash can margaritas. It’s a good time to be had by all!
Joining the OBSC this year for the BBQ & Bash were members from the local Lion’s Club, along with representatives from various programs of the local DIF organization including from Amores de Peñasco Children’s Home, Basic Rehabilitation Unit (UBR), and the administrative offices. Música by Hijos de Mauricio kept a good deal of folks up on their feet…though perhaps the trash can margs helped a little.
Following the OBSC’s 30th Annual Bash, next up on the calendar is the off-road Poker Run set for May 21st and keep an eye out for their Summer Steak Fry, among other events throughout the year!
