New Year brings with it ongoing road work

Jan. 4, 2018. Work to repave 32,000 square meters of asphalt along Avenida Sinaloa has begun, representing an investment of 9.3 million pesos. In preparation for the road improvements, in late December the city took initial steps to fill in potholes along Ave. Sinaloa. Work on Ave. Sinaloa is planned to extend from Blvd. Fremont to Blvd. Benito Juarez. Construction is also underway on the second phase of repaving Blvd. Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez from Blvd. Fremont to the railroad tracks, as well as from the tracks to Blvd. Sonora.
Puerto Peñasco saw 5% increase in tourism in 2017

Héctor Vázquez del Mercado, President of the Puerto Peñasco Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV), reported with an average 5% increase in tourism to Puerto Peñasco in 2017, the office has determined over 2.3 million people visited the area during the year. These numbers, he pointed out, bolsters the growth tendency in tourism Rocky Point has been seeing since 2012. In 2017, detailed Vázquez del Mercado, the tourism industry was further impacted by the peso-dollar exchange, bringing in important revenue. The OCV President indicated while economic revenue from tourism in 2017 was strong, the 5% increase in overall number of visitors was under the 10% in growth reported in 2016.
Lukeville-Peñasco Safety Corridor seen as plus

The Lukeville-Puerto Peñasco safety corridor currently underway, undoubtedly represents a plus in attracting tourism to the area, stressed Puerto Peñasco Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV) President Héctor Vázquez del Mercado. He indicated the safety corridor, which comes as a result of a Memorandum of Understanding signed by Arizona and Sonora at last Fall’s Sonora-Arizona Commission held in Puerto Peñasco, is meant to provide improvements to infrastructure, safety, and tourism, while adhering to similar safety standards as in the U.S.
