Layout and plotting work has begun on construction of an overpass at the current “round about” intersection along the Puerto Peñasco – Sonoyta – and Golfo de Santa Clara highway just north of town. The goal of the project is to prevent fatal road accidents at this point, which sadly have occurred in the past.
Construction on the overpass, which will include an investment of 65 million pesos in federal funds, began with a first phase of leveling and plotting to eventually divert vehicular traffic during work.
The overpass aims to meet the need for a project to resolve highway problems caused at the intersection linking the Puerto Peñasco – Sonoyta highway with that extending toward the Golfo de Santa Clara and Caborca, which have led to fatalities.
Public Projects Director for Puerto Peñasco, José Luis Villalobos, indicated the overpass will provide more safety for thousands of drivers who travel along this highway each day.
