On December 3rd, City Officials held an official tree lighting ceremony at Plaza a la Madre located near the baseball stadium. Surrounded by families and holiday spirit, Mayor Figueroa Zazueta flipped the switch on the holiday lights which will remain in place through Kings Day, Jan. 6th.
Among the adornments is a 15 meter tree sculpture, lit up with images of poinsettias amidst the holiday lights, topped with the traditional Christmas star.
Staff from Public Services, under the leadership of Director Jesús Gómez Pulido, were responsible for decorating the plaza with multi-colored lights, a small sleigh, and large nativity scene, in addition to decorating the kiosko / bandstand in the middle of the plaza.
This is the third consecutive year the city’s principal Christmas decorations have been set up at Plaza a la Madre, rather than in front of City Hall as in years past. The goal of this is to provide ample space for families to enjoy the holiday lights and attractions.
