With numbers topping 55,000 visitors over the past few weekends of Spring Break, the season already surpasses expectations in terms of the amount of visitors from the U.S. to Rocky Point this Spring. (It’s worth noting “Spring” doesn’t actually start till next week)
According to data from the local Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV), there has been a 10% increase in the number of tourists in town for Spring vacations, when thousands of university students and complete families choose to visit the beaches of Rocky Point.
Héctor Vázquez del Mercado, OCV President, indicated totals so far from the well-known “Spring Break” period have been quite favorable, with statistics averaging general occupancy rates of 80% in area hotels and condo complexes for weekends throughout March.
He pointed out in economic terms, this means 17% more than that spent last year – taking into account both the increase in the number of visitors and benefits that stem from the exchange rate.
Though streets have been packed with visitors’ vehicles, no fatal accidents have been reported among tourists though there have been a number of instances concerning alcohol, fights, and incidents involving ATVs and four-wheelers.
